English Premier League Manchester United vs Southampton Preview/Prediction

This game is going to be helping these two teams make a crucial decision. Manchester United has to be trying to get above Chelsea because of their loss on Saturday and probably also get above Leicester City if City loses their next match. On the other hand, Southampton doesn’t look like they’re settling for the 12th position they’re in. This win will put them above Everton and closer to Tottenham (if they lose their match against Arsenal. Is Southampton capable of defeating Man United at the Old Trafford? Well, let’s find out.

Head to Head (H2H)

These two teams have not had such high competition against each other. In their last eight head to head matches, Southampton has never really posed so much threat, whether home or away. Manchester United has had the upper hand winning 4 out of the eight and drawing the rest. Can this play out in their match tomorrow? Let’s watch out for it.

Winning margins

Manchester United has been on the winning side since their last 8 H2Hs, but not so much can be said about the winning margins. It seems to be that United finds it challenging to get anywhere above a one-goal difference against Southampton. The two teams have what we can call a one-sided rivalry, which could end tomorrow if Southampton manages to win. Unlikely as that may be, it is possible since football is a very unpredictable game.

Previous games records

Manchester United has been utterly ruthless since its last five matches. They have won 5 of their last six games and drawn just one since the resumption of the premier league, and Southampton doesn’t look fit enough to be able to disrupt their winning streak. They gave Sheffield 3 goals to take home right after they drew a game against Tottenham. They went on to deposit two goals to Norwich’s one at their home. Brighton and Bournemouth also got a taste of the brutality right before their last game against Aston Villa, whom they defeated three goals to none in their own home.

Southampton has also been good since the resumption of the premier league, winning 3 out of 5, drawing one and losing the other. One can say that they might just pose a reasonable threat in the match if United relaxes too much. Unlikely as that may be, it is possible because this is the premier league (home of uncertainties)

Teams

Both teams are excellent in their own rights, but the Manchester United side is undoubtedly the better of the two. Man United’s midfield is strong enough to hold up the opposition’s attack before they can even get to their defense. Their attack is also good enough to get in at least two goals against Southampton’s defense. Southampton, however, will not make this an easy deal.

Prediction/Verdict

Southampton is strong; Manchester United looks stronger coupled with the fact that they’re the home team. This game is likely to end as a 2 – 1 win for Man United.

The odds can stay at 1.5 for Man United to win, 2.0 for Southampton to win, and 1.5 for a draw.

May the best team win.
